'The Cycle Of Days And Seasons', the latest of Hood's five long players so far, treads a much quieter path more redolent of late period Talk Talk than their grunge forefathers. The guitar lines are more subtle but undeniably addictive and melodic, perhaps best demonstrated on 'September Brings The Autumn Dawn' and 'Roads Lead Northwards' which express misery and angst in equal measure. In fairness it doesn't have the same overall quality as their masterpiece, 'Rustic Houses And Forlorn Valleys' but it certainly has fine moments a-plenty and signals a more mature approach. To the untrained ear though, life in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, must be very depressing if these albums are anything to go by.
