Chuzzlewit were an early signing to the now sadly defunct Earworm Records label. Essentially the work of one Greg Prickman, 'A Map Of Maybes' is a round up of selected recordings from 1995-98. The main point that is glaringly obvious from these tracks is that there is very little deviation in style; almost every cut could be described as downbeat, guitar-driven melancholia ranging somewhere between Hood and Morrissey on the depression scale. But despite this apparent lack of variety, Prickman knew his way round a tear-jerking tune or two. 'Paquebot', 'Cancellaresca', 'I Became Glass', 'Bullet Points' and 'Twined' all benefit from well-worked chord changes; indeed the playing on 'Snowflakes Fly' evokes the deft finger picking skills of indie guitar hero Vini Reilly with whom he shares that ability to capture the essence of loneliness. If a little unassuming for its own good on occasions, this is a pleasingly lo-fi depiction of quiet bedsit angst.
