Hugely promising stuff from Cork's Waiting Room. They may only be signed to a small independent Irish label but their second album emerges fully-formed brimming with a confidence that belies relatively humble origins. Just as Mogwai appear to be becoming almost a self-parody, Waiting Room assert their own love for guitar chords that tingle in the night. 'Message Received' and 'Another Take' see the trio embark on a Hood-inspired voyage of achingly sad vocals and chunky, sombre riffing. Ideas are stretched further on ther echo-driven 'Amsterdam' and by the dissonant howl of 'Point Your Eyes Down' it is abundantly clear that this is not an average, one-dimensional indie band. With a strong following in their homeland, a wider audience is surely on the horizon.
