The American/British duo Clearchanneled are a throwback to the house/trip-hop times of the late 1990s where female chanteuses sung of loneliness and paranoia against a backdrop of ambient electronica. So anyone who misses the likes of Olive and Lhooq will find comfort in hearing the 'White Noise' EP. That's not to say that Clearchanneled's sound isn't a progression from those times. Within these five tracks there's dub and breakbeats to add to the mix and the partnership of Emma Frost (on vocals) and producer/engineer Cameron Leonard-Schroff is a winning one. Frost is breathless and jumpy over some glistening cinematic trip-hop in 'Subcutaneous' whilst Leonard-Schroff conjures up trance-inducing euphoria on 'Lightbringer'. The plaudits are even more deserved for the final song; a remix of 'The Beast' which is a subtle dub/house triumph. A classy selection of tunes geared towards those seeking the early Sunday morning comedown.
