Although a prolific artist in his own right, 'Cities EP' represents Millimetrik's first appearance on Make Mine Music. The work of Canadian Pascal Asselin, better known as the drummer for post-rockers Below The Sea, this new release uses the loose concept of ports around the world as its inspiration. As the wintry cover art suggests, the music on offer is chilly in both mood and execution. A collection of sturdy beats and huge waves of dark ambience makes the stunning 'Reykjavik' the key track, yet it's also well backed up by the sophomore 'Vladivostok', 'Tromso' gradually moves away from hip-hop to embrace a trip-hop pace whilst the less beat-heavy melody for 'Frobisher Bay' is seductively sinister. Solo diversions don't often yield such good results but Asselin happily upsets the formbook.
