For several years now, Pascal Asselin has delivered icy, chilled instrumentals. 'I Am You Are Me' shows how much he is respected given that recently lauded acts such as Port Royal and Televise have both contributed remixes on a compilation which collects four new tracks as well.
Akido adds chunky beats and melancholy melody, Port Royal move things along at typically serene pace whilst Deadbeat seem to dispense with a melodic wall and replaces it with layers of beats. This leads nicely on to Televise's deconstruction of 'Funérailles Ensoleillées' as a work of stunning minimalism with Keith Berry also going for the "less is more" approach. Of the new tracks, the stately, elegant 'Éthique Hivernale' is the pick. Far from being a makeweight record, there's some fine new tracks here plus reworkings which open up further possibilities in Asselin's music.
