One of a clutch of groups to further their careers after using Earworm Records as the springboard to success, The Apples In Stereo specialise in 60s psychedelic pastiches rather than the electronica more typically associated with their erstwhile label. Covering a remarkable 15 tracks in 27 minutes 'Her Wallpaper Reverie' has a lot to say in a small amount of time but this urgency is reflected in the quality of their work. 'The Shiny Sea' and 'Strawberry Fire' could have been recorded by the Monkees circa 'Head' and The Beatles - perhaps inevitably -circa 'Strawberry Fields Forever' respectively and 'Ruby' and 'Questions And Answers' use harmonies like a cutesy version of The Beach Boys. All are as excellent as they are derivative. Taking out the toy piano which features on the extremely short instrumental pieces there are only really six 'proper' songs here but what songs they are.
