Pesky's 'An Effort To Do Good' is the first fruits of labour from Internet-driven music label, Closed System. Described as "basement pop" it certainly gets off to a promising start with the nagging guitar riff that encircles their best offering here, 'Coming True'. Song after song thereafter passes by in just under half an hour with a sense of expediency and harmony that the Apples In Stereo specialised in at their beginning. There is not much to choose between the other tracks save for the addictive 'Building Houses' and the more complicated song structure of 'No One Will Ever Love You'. Granted, this is not the most demanding listen of this year by any stretch of the imagination, but within the lo-fi production values of this debut is the promise of better things to come.
