London act Trinovantes hark back to a time when the female-fronted band was a regular cover feature of independent magazines. Led by Trix A Bell - possibly not her real name - they have a frontwoman who is part Siouxsie Sioux and part (Altered Images singer) Clare Grogan; in essence blending gothic threat with bubbliness. Accordingly, the music is punky pop with occasional gothic flourishes provided by Steven Sonics and the somewhat more modestly-named Dan Wilson. Without offering anything particularly new to the equation, their eponymous debut is peppered with bright spots such as the stop-start melody of 'Majestic', the softer, dreamier 'Burn' and gutsy finale 'Talk Talk'. Somewhat disappointingly, the band have now decided to call it a day but few will feel short-changed by this punchy little album that they've left behind.
