Surely any act which has been bestowed with the description of a "shoegazing Everly Brothers" is worth twenty minutes of anyone's time. The Sky Drops are the duo in question and the backgrounds of the two protagonists are certainly impressive: Rob Montejo was previously a member of Smashing Orange - a forerunner to the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's early sounds - whilst Monika Bullette's recent solo album has been showered with praise. Together they make a very worthwhile (though derivative) brand of grinding guitars and effects, tense drumming and blank, carefree harmonies. Opening song 'You Don't Crawl' is a terrific example of their bruising yet strangely sensual rock music, 'Green To Red' is a wonderful tune which pays dues to My Bloody Valentine whilst the closing 'Hang On', complete with its tagline of "Hang on, we're not on this Earth too long" encapsulates the windswept sugar rush nature of this EP. No doubts about it, this is an excellent introduction to The Sky Drops' concise alternative pop noise.
