Her Vanished Grace are a quartet based around the husband and wife duo of Charlie and Nance Nieland and with their shoegazer pop sound they could certainly give that other married couple, Joy Zipper, a run for their money.
'Faster Than A Bullet' is the best of the compositions featuring Nance as the main vocalist but overall the duo prefer to sing in harmony; Nance sounding like a more experienced Junaita Stein (from Howling Bells) whilst Charlie gives off an aura of cool Americana with both able to make themselves heard above the effects. Yet just as important in their sound is the rhythm section of Maria Theodosiadou and Billy Loose who provide a robust undertow; an area where so many dreampop outfits have come unstuck in the past.
As for the songs themselves, the standouts are the towering emotional heavyweight 'The Night That Broke Your Heart', the rock solid title track, the experimental 'Too Many Choices' and a brace of insistent pop nuggets (the aforementioned 'Faster Than A Bullet' and 'Broken Mirror'). There is a brief lull at the middle of the record but usually the band proffer powerful and emotive music full of driving rhythms and compact melodic structures.
