With 4 tracks on 2 CDs, unwieldy band name and album titles, you coul be forgiven for thinking that this 9-piece band from Canada were making a prog rock concept record. Thankfully this is not the truth as this fine opus is well above any art-school pretentiousness. All four tracks have a lot in common; they are wholly instrumental save for a few snatches of monologues, start off quietly until the music gradually reaches an apex of energy, explode and then subside. In addition each individual piece is stirring enough in its own right moving from blissed-out euphoria to subtle melancholia with equal aptitude. The nearest musical comparisons would be Bark Psychosis and Mogwai but they could equally be positioned in the post rock genre. Moreover, this is one of those landmark albums that could build bridges between the worlds of the rock and classical music fans.
