Soon after the release of Gene's third album they were dropped by their record label after disappointing sales. Sad to say, but the decision appears justified on critical terms too; when once Gene's future seemed bright after an impressive first two albums the creative spark seems to have all but deserted them on this offering. 'As Good As It Gets' is an enjoyable albeit rather unadventurous anthemic opener, whilst things don't get any brighter until the mid section of the CD when Something In The Water at least sounds memorable, and again at the end when the slower, more reflective Little Child and Stop show a little more originality and creative thought. That apart though, this is a largely pedestrian trot through indie guitar cliches of the mid 1990s; it's not bad but after such a promising start in their careers one would expect better.
