The Reverse are a new four piece from North London and Downtime is their first EP; four decent quality pieces of angsty post-Britpop are the result. The obvious comparison to make upon hearing the opening 'Broken Roads' would be that we have another Radiohead on our hands which sets the agenda for doomed - almost whiny - rock. Thankfully they raise the bar after that and the two following tracks - 'The Game' and 'Take A Deep Breath' - have a gutsier air about them, singer Nathan's voice develops in character and they more closely resemble early Gene or Clearlake; bands who admittedly would love to have been The Smiths. To conclude, the group pull off a barnstorming finale in the shape of the piano-led 'Falling Behind'. A promising beginning for The Reverse, then, but they will need to develop their own trademark sound in the British alternative rock genre if they are to progress further.
