Under the name of Corrugated Tunnel, Edwin James is considered one of the leading lights of the Irish electronic scene. Eschewing the usual melodic/folktronica approach of his compatriots, his music is more inspired by the acid house and techno scene of the late-1980s and early 1990's. Although a few of these tracks tend to sound a tad dated (tracks 'The Bionic Hustle' and 'West Jam' are completely bereft of emotion), 'We Are Electronix' covers a wide remit and there's usually a memorable tune to be enjoyed too. 'Rockstars' heads straight for the dancefloor, inventive beats propel the irresistible lure of 'The Snare'. Meanwhile, 'Pink Is The New Black' conjures up images of European cities at night, 'Chaimsmoking Monkey' turns out to be unexpectedly serene and the melancholic 'Not Coming Back' sounds like vintage Pet Shop Boys with a distorted vocal. It's hardly an agenda-setting record but the variety on show makes it an enjoyable listen for fans of the genre.
