Nothing to do with the '45 Seconds Of:' compilation from a few years ago, '50 Minutes' comprises fifty one-minute songs, each by a different artist. Bigger indie scene "names" such as Jeremy Warmsley, Will Sartain and Daniel Johnston all feature but generally the contributors will be unknown to all but the most discerning of music researchers. As is often the case, though, that doesn't mean these are slapdash efforts by any stretch of the imagination. The breadth of styles is naturally wide and there's plenty here for fans of indie pop, lo-fi, folk and electronica in particular to get excited about. Of particular note are Chris McMath's and Mr. G And Rich's wired pop, Le Tournoi, The Coral Sea and Pandatone all produce delicious slices of dreamy melancholia whilst MC Lars' 'If I Had A Time Machine...' is a smart piece of quickfire rapping. And with proceeds from the sales going to The Medical Foundation for the Care Victims of Torture, this really is money well spent.
