Released a couple of years after the original album, 'Remixes' sees seven tracks from Portal's graceful 'Reprise' reworked by a number of artists of a similar persuasion. Not that there aren't any experiments or risks taken here, there are actually plenty. Yellow 6's version of 'Falling' re-positions the song in an echo chamber context, complete with extra feedback. Further contrast arrives via Schengen who add cute, warm beats (akin to the BBC Radiophonic Workshop) on 'After Tomorrow'. And whilst July Skies steer close to the original sound of 'Before The Storm', V/VM deconstruct 'Shifting' into a harrowing, gothic instrumental barely recognisable from the 'Reprise' version. Almost a new album rather than a remix project, with the dark potential of Scott Sinfield's music having being fully realised.
