Quality soul singers have been rather thin on the ground for at least the last twenty years. This is partly because today's major players try too hard to emulate their peers without ever moving the genre forward. Niles Thomas cleverly employs a backdrop of trip-hop beats and when he adds his immaculate voice to proceedings it sounds bang up to date for the 21st Century. Of the five lengthy tracks 'Forgive Me' is the real masterpiece; the verses are full of brooding sensuality whilst on the chorus Thomas pleads convincingly for forgiveness. 'Again Tonight' follows in a similar vein, 'Lady Luck' is more uptempo and 'Israel Eyes' adds appropriate Eastern flourishes. 'Flower Of Sin' may only be a mini-album but it promises much for a modern soul talent.
