Thin Recordings' most recent release is another exercise in downbeat electronica. Unlike the recent 'Eskimo' under the Thin Films moniker, this time Dan McRae - together with fellow musician Dave Ren - has crafted an album strong on subtlety. In fact sometimes it's so subtle, nothing really seems to happen. Then four tracks in, 'Terratogens' breeezes in like a gust of cold wind. 'Sub Rider' stands as the centrepiece where a moving ten-minute piece is set adrift on an understated string section. Top marks too for Part II of 'All Under Heaven'; its glacial melody reminiscent of Future Sound Of London's 'Papua New Guinea'. 'Lien' is not a record to set the pulse racing but Eno fans will appreciate the grace and poise it has to offer.
