It is, of course, essential that new groups arrive on the music scene offering new twists and variations on more conventional themes. King Louis have lazily been compared to Radiohead but the only facets they share with the Oxford band is an unwillingness to compromise and dabblings in electronica. Perhaps their main original element is the combination of two different styles of vocals; one soulful and heartfelt while the other is deadpan and downbeat. On killer choruses (definitely not a modern-day Radiohead feature) as on 'All Brand New' and 'Beautiful Friend' the effect is quite stunning. Musically their diversions include dub production and dark cinematic trip-hop (most memorably on the menacing 'Silent Pride'). 'Generation I Want' is a case of experimentation but - and here's the crucial part - not at the expense of melodic surprises.
