'Fixed::Context' signals a welcome return to form for one of post-rocks longest-serving of bands. After the slight disappointment of 1999's 'E Luxo So' Labradford rediscover their talent here for minimal but ultimately human rock structures. With ex-Nirvana producer Steve Albini on board to help with recording and mixing one would feel that he would add more dramatic rock touches but here he shows he can 'do' understated just as well. This album is minimal in instrumentation but not excessively so and certainly not in terms of emotional impact. Kraftwerk seem to be their nearest reference point; in fact 'Up To Pizmo' is basically Kraftwerk with guitars. But over the course of four long tracks this is an excellent showcase of the band's skills which tingles the spine on regular occasions.
