80's pop veteran Davey Woodward brings us his second album in cahoots with his Experimental Pop Band. Woodward's vocals; although limited and lazy sounding, suit the laid back grooves perfectly rather like Happy Mondays' Shaun Ryder. 'Archive' gives a brief a nod to Josef K with its use of a classic riff from Chance Meeting which is surely a mark of good taste. Their recently deceased multi-instrumentalist Chris Galvin shows that he will be missed as his slick bass playing along with the brisk and fluent drumming add an unmistakable tension to much of the best work on offer here particularly 'Civil Rights' and 'Frozen Head'. With its admirable knack for a cool melody, 'Homesick' showcases a band which deserves more than just critical admiration.
