1987 hardly represented the zenith for artful pop albums but it did offer the neglected gem that is Anna Domino's second long player. Not one of the strongest of singers, this Tokyo-born songwriter certainly knew her way round a tune on this evidence. 'This Time' does echo the sounds of the times but has managed to stay fresh after all these years; blessed with a sense of European flair. Amongst a consistently melodic album there are a few standouts, notably the ambitious, baroque Kate Bush-stylings of the title track, the serene ballad 'Lake' and the excellent single 'Tempting'; a triumph for understated, infectious pop. Perhaps a little too unassuming for mainstream acceptance at the time, at least now listeners have a second chance to discover this little treasure.
