Since the dissolution of Delicate AWOL, key members Jim Version and Caroline Ross have certainly kept themselves occupied. Whilst Ross has worked with Rothko and Susumu Yokota, Version has concentrated on production duties; to brilliant effect on this year's Great Depression album. Tells is therefore a reunion of sorts with a record full of the kind of emotional post-rock/jazz noises that formed the main part of their early careers. Therefore, 'Hope Your Wounds Heal' meanders a lot in terms of song structure but then achieves real moments of poignancy and beauty when it's least expected. Indeed, in the case of 'Colourful Sounds Of You' there's even a strong impression of summery optimism. Otherwise, Tells evoke images of considerably darker seasons.
