After parting company with former lead vocalist Kelli Ali following the first album, 'Becoming X', for stealing the limelight a new sound was expected for this second album. Indeed, this is the case, replacement vocalist Chris Corner's breathy, anxious vocals lend these songs an intensity that is perhaps all too rare in today's music world, helped along by the omnipresent menace of bass guitar. In an album of many highlights; special mention must go to the driving rock angst of 'Curl'; and the cold, calculated tunefulness that permeates through anthems like 'Lightning Field' and 'Destroying Angel'. A brave change in direction for the London quartet, but sadly losing Dayton may prove to be their commercial downfall in the end.
