It's hard not to smile when hearing the opening chords to Sambassadeur's 'Between The Lines' EP. Its title track features the kind of innocent, summery tune which harks back to the Cherry Red records of the early 80's. However, although 'Ice & Snow' follows a similar path, it's in marked contrast to the other half of the EP. 'The Only Living Girl' and 'Can You See Me' call to mind the stoned dolefulness of 'Darklands'-era Jesus And Mary Chain. These songs show why they are signed to Club AC30; a label who have been supporting the shoegazing revival with great dedication. There's a certainly a fair amount of pillaging the past on display but it's presented in an instantly accessable and admirable way.
