Hard to believe, but here's another album which revitalises the shoegazer phenomenon. The Radio Dept - hailing from Sweden - have turned in a fine tune-filled record at their first attempt, where not even a distorted FX haze can disguise the melodies beneath. The single 'Where The Damage Isn't Already Done' is a good starting point; a deceptive lo-fi production but with a beautifully constructed guitar-laden chorus. The Radio Dept. opt for the direct approach to dreampop, eschewing the oft-favoured "wall of sound" in favour of lush pop songs. 'Keen On Boys' drifts by like a dream, the vocals on 'Against The Tide' add a cool breeze to the click-clack rhythms whereas the majestic warm instrumental 'Slottet #2' revels in Cocteau Twins-style blissfulness. Lovely stuff.
