If Gary Numan had stopped making records in about 1982 it is not unreasonable to think that he might be held in high esteem nowadays. This compilation exposes the major flaws in his later career whilst first, sensibly, highlighting that even though he had a horrible nasal whine of a voice he knew his way round his keyboard. 'Cars' and the oddly chorusless 'Are Friends Electric' are the relics he is most fondly remembered for but elsewhere there are other less-heralded joys such as the sinister, chilling 'Down In The Park' and the aptly-titled 'Complex' which for once reveals Numan as a human being ("Don't let them take me" he pleads) rather than a cyborg. Like many artists he has made a little go a long way although at least his absence from the limelight (whether deserved or otherwise) and insistence on making new albums (regardless of their lack of quality) is somewhat less irritating than the spate of other groups who start a reunion tour when the money has run out again.
