In these days of irony and cynicism, it takes a special talent to make records with such a sincerity as 'Someday Peace Love & Freedom'. Nhojj is one such talent. Spending his formative years in the Caribbean, graduating in Economics at New York University and then finally moving to music full-time, the career choice would appear to be well justified on this evidence. Nhojj produces, arranges, write and sings, touching on a number of musical bases along the way. There's the funk of 'Free', lilting reggae on 'Peace' and 'I Miss You' whereas dub is expertly tackled on the considerably darker 'U'. The only time Nhojj does over-reach himself is on the spoken word 'A New Me' but criticism is swiftly forgotten when it is followed by the gloriously optimistic finale 'Someday' where his sweet soulful vocals are brought to the fore again. One of those rare items of the 21st Century: a top quality upbeat record.
