If ever there was a first track that was unrepresentative of the rest of the E.P., 'Pushing Further' is it. On this song, musician, artist and part-time furniture designer Nick Hopkin unleashes a breathless punk vocal upon an electro-pop backdrop. As a sonic assault it finds the hitherto undiscovered middle ground between youthful 90's popsters EMF and the somewhat more anarchic ROC. The other six tracks are considerably more refined, however, combining lush electro-pop with Hopkin's gently-sung vocals. He reaches a peak on 'Seperations' which features a gorgeous instrumental coda and the excellent 'Spread Your Wings' is a triumph for understated pop music. So for those who are looking for a less ironic version of David Wrench, 'The Chaos E.P.' should fit the bill admirably.
