As one third of the No Ground Processes collective, Dan Hopkins is a kind of Renaissance man; experimenting with various art, film and music projects. HL is another musical sideline and what a nightmarish vision it is. Infused with the spirit of early Cabaret Voltaire, 'Broken E.P.' is full of industrial paranoia, characterised by primitve electronic beats, glacial dark atmospheres and Hopkins' own chilling narration. The seven minutes of 'Dark Night In High Ham' sends a horrible shiver down the spine and is the soundtrack to pure evil; either that or the theme music from a mid-70s episode of Doctor Who. But whatever images this 3" CD conjures up, it's undeniably a horribly effective and disturbing listen.
