The members of Forest Giants include former musicians from late-80s/early-90s indie rock acts The Blue Aeroplanes and the Beatnik Filmstars. Their new venture is unlikely to command anything more than a cult audience yet in this case it's probably something that should be celebrated for their endeavours to defy pigeon-holing contribute to a very varied and rather enjoyable mini-album. The delightfully-named 'Beards' is put through a Jesus And Mary Chain blender of distorted pop and 'Sunrise' takes on the narcotic psychedelia of Spiritualized. Meanwhile, 'Late Night In The Park' glistens dreamily like Galaxie 500 whereas the narrative and unsettling soundscape on 'UFO Stories' is reminiscent of the obscurity 'Driving Away From Home'; a one-off hit for It's Immaterial in 1986. As a whole, this record fits in well with the resurgence in shoegazing but also serves as a fine collection of alternative rock songs in its own right.
