By using what sounds like the end of transmission signal for television, it's fair to say Swedish duo FAP aren't geared towards the commercial side of music. Far from it, for although after thirty seconds it's clear that the CD is not faulty, 'Malekasino Dondolo' drifts into half an hour of the experimental end of instrumental music. The glistening guitar chords and subtle wash of atmospherics on 'Jag Drar Till Sjöss En Sväng Jag' is the sound of the project at its melodic peak whilst 'Sjömannen' - thanks to a well-deployed vocal loop (a technique used on two other tracks too) - and some warm synths is actually rather soulful. Elsewhere static and dub vie for space with discordant digital noise for 'Unter Tiden, I Kabyssen'. A challenging but also fascinating rewarding journey into Scandinavian electronica.
