Another reason to celebrate for those who like their electronic music to be soulful, downbeat and danceable. Following in the tradition of recent albums by Junior Boys and Matthew Dear, 'Details' should confirm Richard Davis' status as a major player in his field. All but one of the eleven tracks featured here clock in above the six-minute mark but these glimpses of self-pity and disappointment are more than able to justify extended play. Admittedly this kind of music isn't to be enjoyed by everyone (Davis really sounds at his lowest ebb on 'Sometimes') but the club-friendly backgrounds ensure the listening experience is more palpable than most melancholic music. 'Hear This' and 'Common Sense' even offer comparisons to the Human League. Yet the real oustanding moments are 'Honest With You', 'The Truth' and the stunning title track which begins with the mysterious bleeps of Boards Of Canada but then mutates into an unshakably moody and hypnotic chorus. The perfect soundtrack for those who go to night clubs just to watch other people dance.
