Plotting an unvarying course of abject misery along 50 mintes of confrontational music, Less Deceived's 'Time Is The True Dictator' is not recommended for those recovering from depression. The mixture of post-punk glum rock and monotonous vocals has been done to death by the likes of Modern English and Crispy Ambulance but having said that, this debut album is not without its merits. 'Adolfs Ecstacy' is typically mournful but the subtle guitar work interplays nicely with Jon-D Wilkins's lugubrious tones. 'Awoke With Tears' is a welcome retreat from this male-dominated scene and guest vocalist Francesca Hateley elevates the track to something approaching the heights of Low. Snatches of film dialogue add to the claustrophobic effect of this record but its the punk and post-punk guitar work that remains the most impressive element of this concept album. A few fine moments apart it has to be said that 'Time Is The True Dictator' is one for those who like their their music to be oppressively bleak.
