By day, Ohio-born Matt Beall teaches English to French students but spends some of his leisure time on his Bealla's Bobby Pins project. His style is quite unusual; blending in ambient music with real - and often unidentifiable - instruments which frequently recollect Pete Astor's output as Wisdom Of Harry. 'Patati Patata' and 'Sleeping In Dirty Spaces With Dirty You' serve as the best examples of Beall's cosmopolitan background but it's on the melancholic, modern jazz of 'Du Feu, Mais Pas L'Eau' where he's at his most captivating. On a record lasting fifty minutes, there are times when the music seems to be going nowhere in particular but more often than not the imagination of Beall proves to be his trump card.
