The little-known Breathless have been making albums for 14 years. Singer Dominic Appleton is perhaps best known as a contributor to the 3 This Mortal Coil albums which brought together some of the best musicians on the 4AD label to produce haunting compositions that were cherished by the minority who heard them. Similarly 'Blue Moon' is unlikely to appeal to a wider audience particularly when the 10 tracks on offer represent nearly an hour's worth of music. Because of their use of slow-building atmosperhics obvious comparisons can be made with Talk Talk (in their post-pop phase) and Bark Psychosis. Appleton doesn't say that much but when he does his lisping voice combines well with the quieter moments of subtle keyboard accompaniment and cymbal hits whilst the louder tracks rely on guitars. An understated triumph so no hits here then.
